Audio Engineers of Detroit LLC was formed in 2014 to address the need of a professional audio training institute for those wanting to learn more about the audio and music industry. Founder Michael (Mike) Kinnie has been in the audio and music industry for more than 25 years. Over his career, he has recorded hundreds of songs, worked hundreds of live shows and amassed a variety of audio and music industry contacts.
The company was founded when Michael Kinnie recognized a trend. The lack of women and underrepresented minority populations in audio engineering and also, on numerous occasions, people would ask him how he started his career in audio engineering. There were a few schools that offered training in audio engineering, however, the courses were typically part of a longer curriculum of classes that took several years to complete and at an exorbitant cost. Additionally, no school included a theater concert live sound component whereas students could also learn how to use the same audio engineering principles in a live show versus in-recording studio.
The mission of Audio Engineers of Detroit LLC is to provide high quality, comprehensive audio engineering training at an affordable rate with an emphasis on training women to provide networking opportunities and community resources for women in the entertainment industry. Women make up only 5% of the professional workforce in audio engineering and music production. We strive to be part of the revitalization of the city of Detroit by offering options to reduce unemployment and create career opportunities for metro Detroit residents.
